INDONESIA : ENFORCES FRIDAY WFH FOR CIVIL SERVANTS

JakartaIndonesia, April 10, 2026 — Indonesia has officially rolled out a nationwide Work From Home (WFH) policy for civil servants, mandating remote work every Friday under a new hybrid system.(10/4)

The policy introduces a four-day office schedule (Monday–Thursday) and one day remote (Friday), aimed at improving energy efficiency and adapting to shifting global conditions.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that the move is part of a broader strategy to reduce operational costs while maintaining productivity across government institutions.

“Public services will continue without disruption,” he said, emphasizing that performance monitoring will remain strict despite the shift to remote work.

Not A Day Off

The Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform has made it clear:
WFH is not a holiday.

Civil servants are required to:

  • Stay at home during working hours
  • Submit performance reports
  • Remain under direct supervision through digital systems

Failure to comply may result in strict administrative sanctions.

Strict Oversight, Mandatory Evalutions

Government institutions are now required to conduct regular performance evaluations, ensuring that remote work does not impact service quality.

Digital monitoring systems will play a key role in:

  • Tracking attendance
  • Measuring output
  • Maintaining accountability

Key Exceptions Apply

Not all sectors are eligible for WFH.

Critical public services — including:

  • Healthcare
  • Public safety
  • Sanitation
  • Civil administration
  • Licensing

— will continue operating fully on-site.

Senior officials and regional leaders are also excluded to ensure uninterrupted governance and coordination.

Note WARNING All Condititions Individuallity Profesionalty Listening A gain

This policy marks a decisive shift in Indonesia’s public sector work culture.
The challenge is clear: flexibility must not come at the cost of accountability.
